Gresham ReStore certified GREEN!

It’s official! The Gresham ReStore is now certified green!

“The GREAT Green Business Program Team here at the City of Gresham was proud to certify the Gresham Restore as a GREAT Green Business by meeting our requirements for waste reduction and recycling, energy conservation, water conservation and storm water management,” said Gregg Howard, business sustainability coordinator for the City of Gresham.  “Brieana [Weaver, store manager] and her team at the Gresham ReStore have made numerous upgrades to the facility including switching all of the sales floor lighting to LED which has helped save significant energy. They’ve installed faucet aerators on their hand sinks, marked their storm drains with ‘Dump No Waste Drains to Stream’ markers, switched to recycled content paper towels and bath tissue, third party certified green cleaners, created a household sustainability information brochure display,  and paired all garbage cans with recycling bins and signage above.

“Most importantly however, the ReStore provides a unique venue for the donation and resale of building materials, furniture and other home goods in our community. This provides access to these quality materials at low prices, and keeps all of this waste out of the landfill. We are excited to have the ReStore in Gresham, and look forward to excellent partnerships in the future that further help our community reduce waste and take care of our environment,” he remarked.

“It was an easy and obvious next step for us,” Brieana added.

When the Gresham ReStore opened in June of this year it became the fourth location in the Portland Metro area. Last year, our three stores diverted over 6,400 tons of reusable materials from landfills. Now with four locations and the support of the community, we hope to make that impact even greater.
